Prudence : ouvrir un boîtier ancien peut l'abîmer définitivement. Si l'appareil a une forte valeur sentimentale ou financière, passer par un réparateur compétent reste souvent le meilleur choix.
Procedure

Mamiya 645 / 645 1000s lubrication

Targeted lubrication procedure for Mamiya 645 and 645 1000s cameras.

Objectif

Summarize what the service manual and field experience say about where to lubricate, what to use, and where to abstain on the Mamiya 645 series.

Prerequis

  • Have the service manual for the relevant model at hand
  • Have read the general decision procedure for camera-mechanism lubrication
  • Do not lubricate "just in case" in sequence or braking areas without precisely identifying the interface
  • Work with a tiny amount, consistent with the manual or with a clear observation of dry friction on a pivot designed to rotate

Etapes

  1. Identify the area and check whether the manual explicitly specifies oil or grease.
  2. For the Mirror kick gear, apply Moebius oil only to the shaft and gear pin, according to manual section 3-2 E Installing SLS1941T2 Mirror kick gear.
  3. For the 1st curtain brake / X synchro gear area, strictly distinguish oiled and greased interfaces: the manual cites Moebius oil for some parts and EP grease or Helicolube for others.
  4. In case of heavy or squeaking winding, inspect the troubleshooting causes: lack of oil on the insert spool gear, lubrication of shutter-curtain shafts and bearings, or noisy gears / rack.
  5. Lubricate a plausible area only if it matches an identified interface: Mirror kick gear, shafts / bearings related to shutter-curtain shafts, or a genuinely dry / noisy spool gear.
  6. For the manual-specified surfaces in the 1st curtain brake / X synchro area, use the grease indicated by the manual instead of substituting oil and grease.
  7. If a part returns badly in a sequence area, clean first, identify the interface, then lubricate only if the manual specifies it for that exact part.
Area Treatment Comment
Mirror kick gear Light oil Shaft + pin, manual p.36
Shafts / bearings related to shutter-curtain shafts Light oil possible Only if genuinely needed; never the curtain or ribbon
120 insert spool gear Light oil possible Only if genuinely dry or noisy
1st curtain brake / X synchro Grease or oil depending on interface Follow the surfaces specified by the manual p.42

Vigilance

  • The MS clutch / 1st curtain brake / release sequence area must be cleaned and observed before any lubrication: one misplaced micro-drop can make behavior worse.
  • Sequence levers, stop levers, and film-transport elements are often about position, play, or adjustment rather than being flooded with lubricant.
  • Never oil the curtains, ribbons, or film gate.
  • Do not apply greasy lubricant to contacts and switches SW1, SW2, SW3, or brushes.
  • Confusing a lubricable shaft / bearing with a non-lubricable curtain / ribbon is a common mistake.
  • When in doubt, clean and dry is better than oily and migrating.

Validation

  • Stable operation, repeated cold and after rest
  • No lubricant trace on curtains, contacts, or film gate
  • Positive return of sequence parts after cleaning or targeted lubrication
  • No worsening of timing, braking, or cycle
