Procedure

Interpret the battery check

Practical battery-check reading procedure for Mamiya camera bodies.

Objectif

Give a practical reading of the battery check test on Mamiya 645 bodies to quickly guide a power-supply, contact, or capacitor diagnosis.

Prerequis

  • Use a known-good battery
  • If possible, compare an LR44 and an SR44
  • Observe whether the BC lamp is present, strong, and delayed or immediate

Etapes

  1. Press battery check on a body at rest.
  2. Classify the lamp response: strong, weak, absent, or delayed.
  3. If the lamp is weak or absent, check contacts, solder joints, and intermittent contacts.
  4. If the lamp is delayed, suspect slow charging, leakage, or a tired capacitor, typically C2.
  5. Compare behavior between LR44 and SR44 if needed.
  6. Repeat the test after solder repair or recap.

Vigilance

  • Battery check does not replace a complete cycle diagnosis.
  • A normal BC lamp does not rule out a mechanical fault.
  • A delayed BC lamp is a useful clue, not absolute proof.

Validation

  • The BC lamp lights strongly and repeatably
  • Behavior remains stable with a good battery
  • The result is consistent with the other observed symptoms
